France… It has always been the land of fashion, design, and elegance. A name that if mentioned, a vibe of classiness and sophistication comes to mind. Modern French Interior Design -or the Parisian style- is not different at all. It is associated with both being chic, yet simple!

            About Modern French Interior Design

It starts with the classic French interior design, which is one of the most famous styles worldwide. It has many styles within Baroque, Rococo, Empire, and other styles. Recently people came to admire the glamour and classiness associated with these styles, but the heavily decorated and extravagant looks became out of date. That’s why modern French interior design came into existence. It has both, the glamour of the old, and the minimalism of the new. As you might have guessed, it is an eclectic style to an extent. It allows you to mix modern and classic styles together, while striking the right balance of being chic, without being overdone.

So here are some simple tricks to give your house this effortless beauty, glamour, and elegance that you’ve always dreamed of. Allons-y!

           Black In French Design

Because the Parisian style is light-colored design in general, the use of black adds a significant contrast to the space. It helps in framing the points you want to focus on, and adds strong lines that define the objects in the space if needed. Moreover, it pairs up well with both, burgundy and gold.

           It’s The Moldings!

One of the spot-on features of the styles is the use of wall and/or ceiling moldings. Some Baroque or Rococo details will directly get your space into the style. Having simple paneled walls and doors, baseboards, and maybe some cornices or ornaments in the ceiling will help you a lot. But as we said don’t overdo it or it will be too much, you can leave some blank walls, and that’s perfectly normal. Just try to strike the right balance. And lastly, if you’re moving into a place that has classic history or ornaments here and there, keep them. This style is all about respecting history.

           Floorings

The most common flooring materials in the modern French interior design are Wood and Marble. Wood gives us an earthy warm color that has a cozy and friendly feeling we all need in our living spaces. While marble gives us the luxury and elegance of the French, it can be used in entrances, foyers, lobbies, or bathrooms, and sometimes in living spaces as well according to the feeling you want to deliver.

PARISIAN DECOR TIPS THAT WILL MAKE YOUR HOME INSANELY CHIC

Parisian Decor Tips - by Betsy Kasha / co-founder of A+B Kasha, an interior design and real estate agency based in France /

Just like French women always seem to be walking down cobblestoned streets looking so effortless with their blue jeans, navy sweaters, and black leather jackets, Parisian décor has a certain je ne sais quoi about it. We're not just referring to the flawless homes that have been meticulously designed by the masters of les arts décoratifs, or the châteaux that have been passed down through generations. All French homes—even first apartments—seem to have an elegance that can't be replicated by a set of bergère chairs or an antique chandelier.

So how do the French manage to put together interiors that exude elegance and flair? We turned to prolific interior designer, Betsy Kasha of A+B Kasha, to shed light on what makes Parisian apartments so chic.

           Let Spaces Evolve Naturally

Rome wasn't built in a day and neither are Parisian apartments. Contrary to Americans who like their homes to be decorated yesterday, the French take their time. "It's not a studied strategy, but something that comes together naturally," says Kasha. "French homes have seen a lot of history, and their furnishings and décor can reflect that richness."

When we asked the designer about her decorating rules, she was more enthusiastic about bending them than following them. "Break the rules! Have fun with your décor," she says. The French aren't so concerned with principles of décor, but more concerned about the visceral reaction that happens in front of a truly beautiful piece. "Half the fun is in the search," says Kasha. "Go to flea markets and antique shops. Get to know your own personal style. When an object makes you stop in your tracks and say: I need that 17th-century tapestry—that's your sign."

           Avoid Over-Staging

A pet peeve of the French when it comes to American décor: over-staging. Your bookcase should look natural, not staged. "It still needs to feel like a usable library—the French actually read their books, you know," Kasha jokes. That's not to suggest paying no attention to styling at all, but rather to arrange things in a usable and meaningful manner. "Mix new art books with worn, leather-bound classics. Stack horizontal piles next to books leaning vertically. Add in picture frames or vases. Book jackets are useful, but the physical book cover is usually more beautiful. Remove the jackets (and stash them somewhere) for a more classic, uniform look."

As a result, we managed to organize convenient logistics for 180 sq. meters, in addition to common areas, place two nurseries with a bathroom, an office, an autonomous wing for parents with their own bathroom and dressing room, as well as a laundry block.

“The architecture of the capital complex "Union Park ”, where the apartment is located, is moderately modern, restrained, the facade is finished with clinker bricks and stucco decor. This allowed us to use classic elements without hesitation: decorative layouts for the walls, and for the floor - a win-win French Christmas tree and never-aging marble. It is important for us that the interior does not contradict the exterior. "

Ekaterina and Yulia consider the Toptun armchair by the Ukrainian brand Faina Design to be the most remarkable: it is both comfortable and sculptural - almost an art object. The Eucalyptus chandelier of the beloved English company Ocher is also distinguished: its leaves cast glare on the walls of incredible beauty.

Deciding between the design-build and architect + contractor models represents a major fork in the road of your remodeling planning.

Deciding between the design-build and architect + contractor models represents a major fork in the road of your

remodeling planning. For this reason, you should take the time to research the two options and weigh the benefits

          and drawbacks of each.

If working with a renowned architect is a top priority and if construction budget is a secondary consideration, then

taking the traditional architect + contractor approach might be the better fit. Where high design is paramount,

hiring an architect to check the work of the contractor can be effective. This adversarial relationship between the

architect and contractor can provide some checks and balances so that your project is built to the specifications,

but it often requires the homeowner to step in and mediate between the two parties when disputes arise.

If, on the other hand, project cost and convenience are paramount, design build might be a better choice. One of
